S21 Pro reporting 60 of 65 chips — a whole voltage domain gone dark
A representative Antminer S21 Pro hashboard repair. Board architecture: 65× BM1370 chips in 13 voltage domains (5 chips per domain, ~1.04 V per domain). Unlike the S19, the S21 has no PIC — the control board sets the core-voltage setpoint over I2C via a DAC.
- Reported symptom
- Low hashrate on one board. The kernel log showed
chain[2] find 60 chipsinstead of the expected 65 — a clean 5-chip shortfall. - On-bench diagnosis
- A missing block of exactly 5 chips points straight at one dead voltage domain (5 chips × 13 domains on the S21 Pro). We scanned each domain rail: one domain read out of range instead of ~1.04 V. A short-to-ground check plus thermal imaging isolated a single BM1370 chip that had shorted and pulled its whole domain offline.
- Root cause
- A single failed BM1370. On 5 nm chips the tolerances are tight and one shorted die takes its entire series-wired domain down with it — so five good chips go dark because of one bad one.
- The repair
- We removed the shorted BM1370 and fitted a genuine Bitmain chip using a controlled hot-air profile (~350–380°C) and 0.4 mm reball, cleared the short, then confirmed the domain returned to ~1.04 V and that the control board could set voltage across all 13 domains over I2C.
- Outcome
- Full 65-chip count restored and rated hashrate recovered. The board passed a 24-hour full-load burn-in before return. (On the S21 XP the same logic applies with 91× BM1370P chips in 7-chip domains; on the S21+ chip counts differ but the domain-failure pattern is identical.)

Antminer S21 Pro, S21 XP & S21+ Repair — What We Fix
The Antminer S21 Pro and S21 XP are among the most efficient Bitcoin (SHA-256) miners Bitmain has ever shipped, built on 4nm BM1370 / BM1368 ASIC chips. That efficiency comes from extreme power density, which makes precise thermal and power-rail management essential — and it's exactly where these boards tend to fail. Frontline Hash repairs the S21 Pro, S21 XP and S21+ at the chip level, so you restore full hashrate instead of scrapping an expensive board.
Typical S21 failures include "missing boards", "SOC init failed" errors, low or unstable hashrate, domain-voltage shorts, and PIC/EEPROM communication faults. We diagnose each board, resolve short circuits, reflow or replace failed BM1370 chips with genuine Bitmain parts, refresh the thermal interface for the S21's high-heat design, and run a 24-hour full-load burn-in before return. Mail-in and on-site farm service are both available.
S21 Pro / S21 XP Repair — Frequently Asked Questions
How much does S21 Pro / S21 XP repair cost?
It depends on the fault — a single-domain short is far cheaper than replacing multiple BM1370 chips. We diagnose the board first and send a transparent, itemized quote before any repair. Chip-level repair is almost always a fraction of a new hashboard.
What common S21 Pro / S21 XP faults do you repair?
Missing boards, "SOC init failed", low or unstable hashrate, domain-voltage short circuits, and PIC/EEPROM communication failures. The S21 series runs at very high power density, so thermal and power-rail faults are the most frequent.
Which S21 models do you service?
We repair the Antminer S21 Pro, S21 XP and S21+, which use Bitmain's 4nm BM1370 / BM1368 ASIC chips. For the standard S21 and T21, see our S21 / T21 repair page.
What is the turnaround time?
Most mail-in S21 boards are repaired within a few business days of arrival, followed by a 24-hour full-load burn-in before return. On-site farm repairs are scheduled with our technicians.
Do you offer on-site S21 repair for farms?
Yes — we provide on-site ASIC repair so mining farms can restore dead S21 units on their own floor without shipping downtime.
