Antminer Z11 Not Finding Hashboard / 0 Hashrate — Causes & Fix

When an older Antminer Z11 reports "cannot find hashboard" or drops a board to 0 hashrate, it's almost always a broken chip chain or aged solder — not a settings problem. Here's why, and how it's fixed.

Why one chip takes down the whole Z11 board

Each Antminer Z11 hashboard carries three 12nm BM1744 Equihash ASIC chips wired in a serial chain. Data passes chip-to-chip and has to return through all three. With only three chips in series, a single dead chip or a single cracked solder joint breaks the loop — and the control board reports the entire board as missing / "cannot find hashboard" or simply 0 hashrate.

Because the Z11 is an older platform, the usual culprits are aged solder joints and worn power components that finally give out after years of heat cycling.

Symptoms → likely cause → quick check

"Cannot find hashboard"

Broken serial chain — a dead chip or cracked solder joint stops the board from reporting in

Reseat data ribbon; try board in a known-good slot

Whole board = 0 hashrate

Shorted core-voltage domain or failed ASIC on that board

Try a known-good PSU; watch for the PSU tripping

Works then drops out

Aged / thermally-fatigued solder joint that opens once warm

See if it runs cold then fails after warming up

Intermittent / unstable

Aging power components and capacitors on an older board

Note whether it worsens over time or after moving the unit

Before you send it: quick checks

  1. Reseat the data ribbon and power connectors on the missing board.
  2. Swap the board to a known-good slot and try a known-good PSU — isolates board vs. control board/PSU.
  3. Clear dust and check the fans — heat accelerates solder-joint failure on old boards.
  4. Reflash firmware and reboot to rule out a corrupted config.

Still "not found" or 0 after that? The fault is on the board — it needs chip-level diagnosis and BGA rework, not a settings change.

How we repair a Z11 board

On the test fixture we trace where the serial chain breaks, check the core-voltage rail with short-to-ground and continuity tests, and confirm the failed chip under thermal imaging. We reflow or replace the dead BM1744 with a genuine chip, repair worn power components, and run a 24-hour burn-in before return. Service and pricing are on our Antminer Z11 repair page.
