Antminer Z15 Pro Overheating & "Temp NG" Errors — Causes & Fix
The Z15 Pro runs hotter than the original Z15 — so heat is behind most of its faults. Here's how overheating leads to Temp NG errors, hashrate drop, and boards that disappear, and how each is fixed.

Why the Z15 Pro is so heat-sensitive
The Z15 Pro delivers more Equihash hashrate than the original Z15, and that extra performance comes with extra heat. When cooling falls behind — dried thermal paste, a dust-clogged heatsink, or a fan losing RPM — the ASIC chips run past their safe temperature. On the Z15 Pro that heat doesn't just throttle performance; it actively damages the temperature sensor and the solder under the chips, which turns a cooling problem into a hardware fault.
That's why a Z15 Pro complaint often starts as "it runs hot" and ends as "a board disappeared and my hashrate dropped."
The heat chain reaction
Heat builds up
Dried thermal paste, dust, or a weak fan lets the BM1746-class chips run past their temperature limit.
Temp sensor fails
The on-board temperature-sensor chip degrades, so the miner shows "Temp NG" or a stuck 0°C reading.
Solder fatigues
Repeated heat cycling cracks the BGA joints under an ASIC, opening the serial data chain.
Hashrate drops / board vanishes
A broken chain means lost hashrate — or the whole board shows as "cannot find hashboard".
What you can check first
- Clean dust from the heatsinks and intake/exhaust — restricted airflow is the #1 cause.
- Confirm all fans spin at full RPM; a fan losing speed cooks one end of the board.
- Lower the room/ambient temperature and improve airflow around the unit.
- If it shows "Temp NG" / 0°C even when cool, the temperature sensor itself has likely failed — that needs board-level repair.
- If hashrate dropped or a board vanished after running hot, the heat has already damaged a chip joint — send it in.
